Combat Controls for Full Metal Kaiju Hunters

Movement, weapons, equipment, and the habits that keep Jaegers alive.

Combat Controls

Full Metal Kaiju Hunters is won with control literacy long before it is won with Prestige math. This guide turns alpha combat into a practice plan: how to move, when to strike, how to spend equipment, and how weapons and perks change your hands. Use it right after Getting Started and before serious boss attempts in How to Beat Bosses.

Roblox input prompts can vary by device. Learn the actions below, then map them to your keyboard, controller, or touch layout in-game.

The five actions that matter

  1. Move / camera — if you lose the Kaiju on screen, you lose the telegraph.
  2. Primary strike — your bread-and-butter damage button.
  3. Dodge / reposition — the difference between “almost” and “dead.”
  4. Equipment fire — Nuclear Air Strike, Bunker Buster, bombers, Attack Helicopter, Strafing Runs.
  5. Weapon specialty cadence — Tesla Fist, Enforcer, or Flame Turbine rhythm.

If you only mash strike, you are not playing Jaeger combat — you are feeding the Kaiju free grabs.

Movement fundamentals

Pacific Rim–style fights punish tunnel walking. Practice these habits on Hong Kong or Neo Tokyo:

  • Strafe more than you backpedal.
  • Re-center the camera after every big enemy leap.
  • Stop moving for a half-beat when you need to read a wind-up — panic circles create new mistakes.
  • Use map geometry as brakes, not as traps; Siberia and The Breach will pin you if you hug walls blindly.

Movement drill (5 minutes)

Pick a trash pack map. For five minutes, deal damage only after a deliberate strafe. If you stand still to “aim,” restart the drill. This single habit improves Otachi and Knifehead attempts overnight.

Strike discipline

Your primary strike is a resource of attention, not only damage. Long greedy strings are how Leatherback teaches humility.

Good string: hit → read → hit → prepare dodge.

Bad string: hit-hit-hit-hit into a grab you saw coming.

Cherno Alpha players especially must respect recovery after heavy swings. Saber Athena and Obsidian Fury players must respect the opposite problem: speed tempts overcommitment. November Ajax is ideal for learning clean strings. Apex and Midnight Winter assume you already know when to stop punching.

Dodge windows and grab survival

Bosses and elites telegraph grabs and charges. Your job is to treat the telegraph as a cooldown on greed.

Perk alignment:

  • Mag Lock Anchors — prioritize if grabs end most of your runs.
  • Titanium Ribbing — prioritize if chip and body blows melt you during correct dodges.
  • Enhanced Stabilizers — prioritize if camera/handling chaos causes self-mistakes.

Dodging into the attack can work in some patterns and fail in others — write notes per boss instead of believing one universal i-frame fantasy.

Equipment timing (the real “advanced controls”)

Equipment separates pilots who clear from pilots who spectate.

EquipmentControl idea
Nuclear Air StrikeFire on confirmed plant/expose, not on vibes
Bunker BusterAnswer stubborn grounded phases
B2 / B1 bombersSpend to reshape space while you rotate
Attack HelicopterHold for safe pressure during your own reposition
Strafing RunsPre-aim lanes the Kaiju likes to charge through

Equipment drill

Run a mid map with a hard rule: you may use each equipment type only once, and only after saying the reason out loud. This breaks panic dumping before Mega Kaiju.

Weapon control profiles

Tesla Fist

Close-range disruptive pressure. Requires confidence in dodge exits. Practice entering, landing a short burst, and leaving before the counter-grab. Excellent for players who already strafe well.

Enforcer

Readable mid-fight damage. Best training weapon for learning strike → read loops. If you are returning after a break, Enforcer rebuilds timing faster than flashier options.

Flame Turbine

Zone and path control. Place pressure where the Kaiju will be, not where it is. Pairs with Strafing Runs when you can predict lanes on BloxYork or Mega Tokyo.

Pick one weapon for a full session. Switching every death resets your hand memory.

Device-specific tips

Keyboard & mouse

Bind equipment to keys you can hit without looking. If Air Strike shares an awkward finger with jump/camera keys, rebind. Camera speed high enough to track Otachi, low enough to avoid nausea on Australia turns.

Controller

Use consistent bumper/trigger logic for equipment versus strikes. Controllers make greedy strings easier — force yourself into the hit → read cadence.

Mobile / touch

Reduce on-screen clutter mentally: decide which thumb does camera and which does skills before the match starts. Consider simpler equipment loadouts until accuracy stabilizes.

Linking combat to progression

Better controls earn coins and DNA faster, which feeds How to Farm DNA and How to Prestige. Prestige’s ~5% permanent stats feel huge when you already dodge; they feel invisible when you eat every grab.

There are still no codes that grant aim — Codes and How Rewards Work explain the real reward stack.

Map-by-map control focus

MapPractice focus
PrologueCamera + first telegraphs
Hong KongStrafe striking
Neo TokyoEquipment once-per-reason drill
SiberiaDodge under pressure
The BreachFull kit discipline
BloxYorkLane prediction for strafes
Mega TokyoDense-target camera work
AustraliaPatience when variety tilts you

Common control mistakes

  • Camera locked on your fists instead of the Kaiju shoulders/head tells
  • Holding equipment “for later” until you die at 100% charges
  • Dodging in a predictable left-left-left pattern
  • Trading during obvious wind-ups because a YouTube short said “just DPS”
  • Blaming alpha hitboxes every time without reviewing your greed

Alpha bugs exist — verify with a second attempt and, if needed, ask Tragic Works in Discord Community.

A 20-minute daily controls routine

  1. 3 min — camera tracking only, light taps
  2. 5 min — strafe-strike drill
  3. 5 min — dodge-on-telegraph drill
  4. 5 min — single equipment reason drill
  5. 2 min — notes: one mistake to fix tomorrow

Do this before bosses. Your Mega Kaiju attempts will stop being coin furnaces.

From controls to bosses

When Knifehead deletes you, do not only read the boss page — identify the failed action (camera, greed string, empty tools). Then use How to Beat Bosses to assign a phase plan that matches your improved hands.

Jaeger-specific control notes

  • Cherno Alpha — shorter strings, heavier commits, bigger punish if you miss the read
  • November Ajax — default trainer for all drills above
  • Obsidian Fury — aggression capstone after drills are clean
  • Saber Athena — high tempo; camera discipline mandatory
  • Apex — equipment sequencing exam
  • Midnight Winter — identity kit; master baseline drills first

Closing

Combat controls in Full Metal Kaiju Hunters are a loop: see telegraph, choose strike or dodge, spend equipment with a sentence of reason, repeat. Master that loop on city maps, then take it to bosses and Prestige farms. When your hands feel ready for grinding, continue with How to Farm DNA or return to the Guides hub for the full path.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

What should I practice first in Full Metal Kaiju Hunters combat?

Camera tracking and strafe-striking on easy city maps. Add equipment discipline drills before you chase Mega Kaiju.

Which weapon is best for learning controls?

Enforcer is the most readable training weapon. Move to Tesla Fist or Flame Turbine after your hit → read cadence is stable.

Why do I die even when I spam equipment?

Panic dumps waste punish windows. Use each tool for a stated reason and keep charges for real boss phases.

Do perks change how I should control my Jaeger?

Yes. Mag Lock Anchors support grab-heavy problems, Titanium Ribbing helps chip survival, and Enhanced Stabilizers help messy handling.

Keyboard or controller — which is better?

Whichever you can rebind for clean equipment access. Consistency beats device brand.
